I can see how someone might switch if all they have is an entry or
mid-range camera, but I would be surprised to see anyone considering the
almost-high end (MZ-S, F-100, EOS-3) to switch. I'd be very surprised
if Pentax could come out with any camera that could make a pro/advanced
amateur switch.

I don't see how it would be a trump card play. One thing to consider
is whether a given model would entice non-Pentax users to buy into the
system or not. I can't see how doing anything on the film side is
going to entice Canon or Nikon users to switch. As nice as the MZ-S
is to use, I have yet to meet a Nikon or Canon user who cared at all.
Not even enough to look at it closely. And when I would show it to
them, just an acknowledgement that it was a decent camera. The one
thing I can see causing a change is a great, small, well featured DSLR
that is inexpensive. Nobody really has one of those yet and the cost
to enter the DSLR market is still prohibitive for many/most non-pro
photographers. Tap into that market and you might have something.
