This has been my experience also. However, use my digital (which does have a fairly capable computer interface) mostly for field work.

That said, I have observed that there are some number of users who do take advantage ot the direct linkage along with computer control and in some cases this is a necessary requirement for efficient operation. convenient and in some cases necessary. I have no idea how significant the demand for these features would be for those who would be interested in this particular camera. It is hard to cover the whole application spectrum with one product.

Tell you what - it doesn't matter. What you find soon enough is that it's such a faff connecting up the camera to the computer (they will insist on covering USB ports with silly flexible rubber grommets) that you'll just buy a card reader anyway. I got Fuji FireWire (IEEE1394) card reader and hey presto, I'm loading pics up to the desktop at wonderful speeds. IMO a card reader is essential.
