Well, the D100 has a feature that allows the user to activate "rule of
thirds" grid lines in the viewfinder if desired. In a full-frame DSLR
they could use similar grid lines to outline the "APS" capture area. (In
an expensive enough body though, it might be economically feasible to
block the outside area of the viewfinder mechanically.)
