Some did, (but it wasn't the LX it was the KM, KX and K2 in the mid 1970's),
the LX had as good compatibility as the previous K mount models with M42 lenses.
However the *ist and *ist D don't and there's no reason for it except marketing!

I'm sure that if PDML had been around in 1980 some would have complained that LX didn't have full compatibility with screw mount lenses. Some would protested loadly that they couldn't use the original Asahiflex lenses with the LX.
