Minolta and Canon "alienated" their users back in the mid 1980s by releasing cameras with totally incompatable lens mounts. For all that it matters, Nikon has pretty much done the same thing in increments over the years as well. It didn't hurt them at all. Of course, all three came out with some killer products when they changes mounts, which is something that Pentax isn't doing. They may be doing a lot worse than alienating their user base, they may well be killing the company.
