I have the Epson 2450, basically the same software.  I find that the
Epson Twain driver works pretty well for quite a few things.  I tend
to use Silverfast more often for the following reasons:
   Allows better control over type of film being scanned
   Provides for better control of the crop - Twain tends to crop off
      too much sometimes
   Quicker to work with for scan after scan - doesn't require a
           preview scan for each time it is loaded

I find that both are useful - depending on what is being scanned, one
or the other works better.  Can't say as I would want to only use one
of them exclusively.
