To some extent that complaint reflects old-time thinking, where there
was far more separation between image capture and playback modes.

With the *ist-D I can push the "playback" button to see the last image
whenever I want, and then push the "info" button to get the histogram.
I'm not stuck with some arbitrary choice of post-exposure review time;
in fact I usually set review down to one second, just to confirm that
I got an exposure.  But if I want to get the histogram I can get to it,
and an indefinite review period, without ever leaving ready-to-shoot.

It's also a mischaracterisation to describe the in-camera sharpening
tools as inadequate.  The main complaint is that the default value for
the sharpening is too low, but even that opinion is not universally held;
there are several people on this and other lists who are in 100% agreement
with Pentax's decision to keep the default sharpening at a low level.
