ebay is not crazy. people who have no idea what they are doing, are.
there's very little need in bidding more than once. preferrably, in the 
last 0.1 second
(sniping that is). and, in general, unless the starting bid is 1c and 
you just using "items i am bidding on"
section to track things, there's basically no need to bid more than 
once, no matter what.
(ok, there are some very special circumstances when it does make sense, 
but i don't want
to go too deep into ebay theory :)
and, no matter what, bidding war is always a bad idea. there's no 
excuse, period.
just bid once, bid the max you care to pay and never open the listing 
page again, until the
game is over.
