I must admit, Jostein had his FA 28-70 2.8 on his *ist D and I don't like
it. Sure, it's a good performer, but part of the pleasure of photography
for me is the look and feel of a lens - how it works on the shop floor if
you like. I think it's as ugly as hell, but if you like it and it does
the job...

Personally I love the Tokina 28-70 or 28-80 2.8 lenses - they look and
feel more like traditional MF lenses, but they are pretty good and I
would choose one over a Sigma.

I used to have the 28-70 2.8 in Pentax. Having sold that, I bought
another in EOS to replace it - it's that good. Of course, I would love an
L 24-70 but I don't have a grand knocking about. The Tokina is worth
looking at.
