I've been trying to explain (at least to myself) why this picture makes me think "Just right" and the man with the cell phone makes me think "not quite". I think it has to do with the relationship of the subject to the background. The man in the bakery is obviously comfortable having his picture taken and is practically embracing his purchase. The fact that the background just gently embellishes without any strong elements of its own works just fine. The only nit I would pick is that I would have liked to see a bit more space under his arms to really let that hug come out. The man with the cell phone, on the other hand, doesn't look like he wants to be in the picture or anyway connected to his surroundings, and I guess I'm looking for some strong element in the background to force him in or at least to provide some kind of comment on his attitude, and for me, I don't see anything like that.
