Subject: Photokina rumour mill has started...

I think Roland Mabo used to post on here, but now uses Photozone. Take
the following as you will - depending on how well you know Roland:

___________________________

Pentax are expecting to show two new DSLR's at the Photokina show in
september. One entry level/beginner DSLR (like the Nikon D70 and Canon
300D/Digital Rebel) and one more pro-oriented. The new entry
level/beginner DSLR are near it's completion state and it's likely to be
in shops early autumn. Pentax has officially declared that they will
release two new DSLR's "before the end of 2004", if this mean that the
pro model will be out in the shops before christmas or just showned
("announced") before the year ends - this I don't know.

The new entry level/beginner model is said to be more plastic and has a
simpler feature set than the *ist D. Nothing is known about the new pro
DSLR, it's rumoured to use a different sensor than the current 6Mp from
Sony.

The *ist D uses a control interface similar to the Z-1p (shutter and
aperture dials on the body). It has a plastic outer shell build upon a
stainless steel chassi (quite similar in build to the Z-1p). The MZ-S
has magnesium alloy inside and out.

They have the same metering, but the actual results may differ since
digital has a different light sensitivity and exposure latitude.

Best wishes
Roland

* DA 14
Pentax has said that the DA 14 will be in the shops around mid-June.
It's still May! Don't expect new products to be released earlier than
Pentax has said. ;-)

* New DA lenses
Pentax are working on more lenses especially designed for DSLR's, news
on this will come in time for the Photokina show. This includes both
consumer friendly lenses and pro-products (to support the new pro-DSLR).

The system is not dying, it's just several months between the PMA and
the Photokina show which explain the inactivity. Pentax does not make
major announcements and/or releases between shows...

Have a "cool" summer and prepare yourself for the Photokina show. :-) By
tradition, Pentax makes it's major announcements/releases at Photokina.

Best wishes
Roland
