I'm really curious, because usually a lens this wide has its own
limitations but often makes a spectacular view. I mean, if Pentax is
still selling this lens, it should be good. How much do you pay for it?

I've just got my D70 (cheaper than *ist D), and because of the 1.5x
factor, my widest lens 17-35 and a 20mm, only becoming 25.5mm and 30mm
respectively. Although Nikon makes a 14mm (equal to 21mm), some of the
users said it's not that good, esp at the price. The DX assigned 12-24
is also only 'ok' at 12mm.

So I just want to know if Pentax has something special at the wide end.

Not a clue.
I am so bad, I really don't worry over much about this sort of stuff.
I think the M 85mm f/2 is a great lens.
That should tell you how discerning I am.
