I know many shooting Nikkors who would like such a lens like 50-140 2.8 or similar. With most zooms in this standard length weighing about 1.5kg (and it's VERY tiring to lug it around), and most would much rather use the wider end than an enlarged longer end with the crop factor, such a lens would be IMO quite good seller. Everybody got used to the ~70-210 2.8 range.
REPLY: I've been told that there's no plan of manufacturing telephoto DA lenses. DA series will stop at short telephotos (of course plans may have changed since I was told this!). I guess it is because there's no savings to be had (only restrictions in compatibility) by making telephotos fit a smaller circle as they need to be just as long and wide except for the rear elements that doesn't cost much anyway. In fact, many 35mm system telephoto lenses actually fit a larger image circle than the 35mm frame. Pål
