Should the photo be better balanced, it would be out of balance, Dag. As it happens, even without checking when making the foto, the distance from the top left edge to the light area, and from the bottom right edge to the base of the railing, are within about 1/8-inch of each other, affording a subtle balance that puts the bottom of the stairway just about perfectly in the center, and puts the figure in the upper right third or so of the frame. The crop as you suggest it would, imo, reduce the depth and darkness from which the man has climbed, perhaps too much. Why don't you show me the crop you have in mind?
