I have had a look at the specs for the DA14/2.8 on Boz's site and I am a bit
disappointed with the size and weight of this lens. I was hoping it would
be a good hiking lens but it is heavier than the DA16-45/4 (which is no
lightweight itself).

Given that it has the same angle of view as a 21mm full frame lens why is it
so much bigger and heavier than the FA20/2.8? I thought that the idea
behind smaller image circle lenses was so that they could be lighter and
smaller?

Comparing it to other lenses with a similar focal length:

DA14: W=83.5; L=69 (not counting lens hood which would nearly double the
length); 420grams
FA20: W=70; L=43.5; 255grams
A20/2.8: W=70; L=43.5; 245grams
M20/4: W=63; L=30; 150grams
FA20-35/4: W=70; L=68; 245grams
FAJ18-35/4-5.6: W=71; L=69; 203grams

This is when I wish my *istD was full frame as there are many existing
lenses that could meet my wide angle needs and still be small, lightweight
and unobtrusive (and relatively cheap).
