Well, as you may have already seen, Pentax, cameras and photography are way down on the list of stuff we normally talk about. Making fun of long-standing members behind their backs seems to be considered good sport these days. > but I will tell you a little about > myself... Okay, please do! > > I just joined this list simply because I just purchased a Pentax this > week. I don't have a Program Plus, but it seems to be a highly thought of camera around these parts. I'm a manual focus type of guy (as you are, it seems), owning an MX, LX, some old Spotmatics, a few (but not many lenses), and some older cameras by a few other manufacturers. Other than the LX, all mechanical, all film, all manual focus. I think my LX is the newest camera I own, and it was likely an early one, made at least 20 years ago. > > My wife and I live on the Oregon coast, with no kids so I can dedicate > some funds to camera gear instead of to toys for the tots... ;) You're a lucky man, both in terms of where you live (I've heard it's lovely there) and having a bit of cash for fun things. Not that I don't love my kids and all... <vbg> > > Hope this post is not inappropriate or thatr the list is not meant > solely for "pros". Pentax hasn't made a 35mm pro camera since the LX. Okay, their medium format stuff is used by pros, but even MF is being eaten up by digital. If this list were only for pros, it would be a small one indeed, although there are a bit more than a few pros here, some of whom even use their Pentaxen (for some reason, that seems the plural of Pentax around here) to make money. As far as a friendly "hi, howya doing" post, well, I think you'll fit in quite well around here. Have a drink (I prefer a nice stout - Guinness will do, Beamish is better), pull up a chair and enjoy yourself. You'll find some tech-heads, some who just like taking photos, and some who do both. You'll find some amazing experts, and somewhere on this list will be someone who can answer pretty much any Pentax or general photography question you've got (not me, BTW <g>). This is a great group, with many friends among us. > > Have a great evening all... Thanks, I will. BTW, most of the stuff that's been said about me is untrue - did someone say I don't wash my hands? Not true! At least once a week, more if needed. But - those who said "don't believe anything frank says" are indeed correct. I rarely say anything of substance or verity. I'd like to think that sometimes I'm good for a bit of comic relief (along with several others). Welcome aboard.
