Okay, I'll play, too!
This would fill 6 months very nicely! I'd tour Europe to photograph the
Spring Classic bike races (Bastogne-Liege-Bastogne, Roubaix, etc), and in the
summer, do the major tour races such as the Giro d'Italia, culminating with
the Tour de France. If I do it next year, I'll get to see Lance win his 4th
(Go Lance!). That would give me the chance to photograph some amazing
scenery, along with the races and spectators.
In terms of equipment, I'd stick with what I'm familiar with:
Spotmatic SPII
1.4 50mm Super Multi Coated Tak
2.5 135 SMCT
Prosaic perhaps (in terms of equipment), but you can get very close to the
riders in these races, so I think the 135 would be as long as you'd need, and
the 50 would do well for the crowd and the scenery. And, I'd be giving
nothing away in terms of optical quality.
