Zeiss comments are marketing assurance to buyers of Zeiss products who want a secure feeling.

I happened to meet an old business friend from EK at Macworld. He is one of the honchos on the film engineering side of the game. His statement was that Kodak will be making film as long as there are users buying it. I said aren't declining sales causing film to dip below the profitable level, and would Kodak continue making film when it became unprofitable, allowing profits from other parts of the company to carry it. He looked at me and said, "Up to a point maybe. I doubt it in the long term ..."

Film sales are declining more rapidly than any of the industry folks had thought it would as recently as three years ago.
