$60/month sounds high, but might be because of your rural location.

When I first went to DSL service in 2000, it was $59/month at 384/128Kbps in Cupertino, unmetered. Nowadays, DSL service through SBC/Yahoo.com in Sunnyvale costs me $29.95/month with 1500/768Kbps performance, unmetered.
