ME-Super hist...
I went to buy a MG at Montgomery Wards but had to settle for a "rain check"
because they were out of stock.
When I went back, they no longer would carry the MG (IIRC) because the Program
Plus had come out (1984?)... so I pitched a bitch & got a "step up" ... a ME Super
with SMC M-50mm/1.4 lens, for the price of the MG on sale.
#3012xxx
Which was promptly stolen by my old man when he moved to Alabama.
I didn't see the camera again till 1997 when the SOB died.
The camera was in perfect shape (apparently) due to the white button on the
exposure mode dial having died (hopefully within weeks of arriving in Alabama).

A good CLA by a tech that had a dead ME-Super for parts put my "baby" back in
pristine condition. The only remaining "glitch" is that the self timer sounds
tired, but still works in the 4~10 sec window described in the owners manual.

Program Plus...
I owned the ME-Super just long enough to know I NEEDED a camera & it had to be a
Pentax. A misprint in the newspaper & a typical air-head clerk got me into a
Program Plus with SMC-A 50mm/1.7 for less than it cost me for the ME-Super in 1984
(#1209xxx).
Not a lick of problems... till I decided to "shoot the works" & send it to
Colorado for a total "once-over CLA by the experts" in 1996.
Four weeks later & still no camera, I called Colorado to see what the problem was
& got some exec that had my beauty on his desk... who wanted to send me a NEW
camera instead of my Program Plus. After some heated words, the exec finally let
it slip that he wanted my camera for his collection.
Some VERY heated words resulted in my camera arriving back 3 days later.
In 2001 a CLA by a local tech revealed that he'd never seen a Pentax in such good
shape (other than NOS)... a shop that handles all the local police & newspaper
camera problems.
I dunno... it works fine & I'm a happy camper.
There IS one other thing for both cameras.... the vinyl piping along the edges of
both "eveready" cases turned to goo. But you can just rub it off (before it gets
on anything) and the cloth backing remains. No one would ever know unless it
happened to them.
And the ME-II winder doesn't want to always engage on either camera.
If it "skips" once, it goes back in the bag. After 20 yrs of autowinder-less use,
I don't really NEED it anyway.
I'm missing one viewfinder cover and both filler plates for the hot shoe.
Piddly problems for sure, compared to others.
