Via any method is better than ZERO.
The new bodies are IGNORING lens communication
Of the K/M lenses. Just because its mechanical
Doesn't mean its of no value or meaningless.

That's what makes them outdated. A and later lenses communicate that 
information electrically (And F and later ones are electronic).
