At any fstop smaller than wide open, especially
Smaller fstops like f11/f16 you lose a lot of light
Reaching to the meter and eventually as the light
Gets lower like than you will lose metering accuracy
And lose metering completely where you don't with
Wide open metering because there is much more light
Reaching the metering cells. DUH.

Also, an absolute light value is delivered to the meter.
There are fewer mechanical parts contributing to exposure error.
