Used to happen to me all the time. No digital in those days (70s and
80s), but people would come in and tell me they wanted to pick my
brain for info before they went to K-Mart to buy a camera, lens,
flash, whatever. When I asked why they weren't buying from me, they
always said my price was too high. In other words, my knowledge that
they wanted so badly had no financial value. They were amazed and
offended if I got angry.

I simply could not match K-Mart's price because they were often
selling a camera for less than my wholesale price. They were buying
at the 1000 piece price and I was buying at the 6 piece price.

In those days K-Mart, Woolco and JC Penney all had well-stocked photo
departments, making competition even harder.
