Hi Mark ...

I really can't speak specifically about the autofocus lenses,
although, as you know, I've the A*85/1.4. I suppose it would be
similar to the FA in terms of what you're looking for, and I found it
to give the thin DOF that you're looking for.

Depending on what distance you're shooting from (i.e., if you don't
need infinity focus) the K105/2.8 could be outstanding for your
purpose with the addition of a very short extension tube - in the 9mm
- 12mm range, although if you want to get closer a 20mm or so tube
would work nicely. While I've not tried this with eyes, I did a few
test shots using an inanimate object, and that's why I think this
technique might work. It's worth a try and it's a lot less expensive
than a new lens.

Also, the K135/2.5 will be a fine choice with a short extension tube.
If you're heading up this way any time soon you can use my lenses and
tubes to see if these options will work for you. If you can't make it
up here, I've got an old K135/2.5 that I can send you along with a set
of extension tubes, and you can try out the various combinations.

Either of the Pentax macros should provide razor thin DOF. I've both
the 200/4 and the 100/2.8, and the results from some of my experiments
with those lenses tell me that either will give you what you want.
