Film is not dead it Italy. It sleeps with the fishes. Best to check as soon as possible what the rules are about film in hand-luggage nowadays. If they are against you then Godfrey's advice is best. You should be able to find out before leaving where you can buy the film, and perhaps order it by email to be ready to pick up when you arrive.
