Unfortunately the sound is a function of the design and components. It
is possible to eliminate but at far more expense than any flash
manufacturer is prepared to go to given that it's rarely a problem.
The flash utilizes a high frequency low voltage oscillator which feeds
into a transformer that is designed to step up the voltage required
for the flash discharge tube. The little transformer is the main
source of the noise.
