I guess you'd rather have thin, rough cast housings that have a  
stipple finish rather than a nicely finished surface that looks like  
black lacquer or black chrome plating ... ?

I don't care what cameras look like, to be honest, I care how they  
perform. But the L1 has a rather nice finish ... better than any of  
the Ricohs or even the Pentax K10D's nice polycarbonate finish. I  
have them both, use them every day for several hundred exposures, and  
I prefer the L1's finish and detailing in many ways.

But as with other cosmetic things, de gustibus non disputandem.
