I've been there twice in the last 3 years - mostly in Sofia, but some
time out in the country (including a few hours personal guided tour
in Plovdiv.) I'll draw some material together and send it off list
over the next few weeks. I chose not to go to the Black Sea coast,
partly because of the time/expense involved via train (and the train
goes to the heavily populated resort portion, it seemed it was going
to be complicated to get to the more natural portions). I wouldn't
drive there. (As a possible point of comparison, I felt very
comfortable driving in northern Italy, have done ok without too much
stress in Washington DC, various parts of England including London,
many regions in Mexico... Bulgaria would be more challenging, not
least due to the problem of reading the directional signs.)

I was hoping for a trip back there this February but that didn't come
through. I envy you.
