Bruce, yes, both were with the 283, auto setting on the yellow at
f/5.6, iso 400.
I was using the Sigma 17~70 at about 50mm, maybe 4 feet from the subject.
I had the flash loaded with the AA Lithium batteries.  They were
removed from the Sigma flash and I don't remember how fresh they were
but the flash was instantly ready again at that short distance.
I know what you mean about running out of power at weddings. I shot
them damn things for over 20 years. My last one was in 2003, except
for a very small event for a close friend. It was a piece of cake on
digital, but I was not happy with the Sigma flash, mainly because of
the P-TTL procedure.
I bought the 283 yesterday on a whim while looking in a local used
camera store for a lens cap. The flash works perfectly on the K10, no
more P-TTL crap! Just set the f stop and shutter speed and fire away.
I was pleased to see that the flash settings (iso/f stop) were very
accurate from fairly close to across a large room in the house.
