When I was selling cameras in the mid 1980's, the FG and FG-20
were current models. They had the worst reliability of any
camera I had seen. It was not unusual to have them bad out of
the box. I decided the FG stood for F#cking Garbage.
Apparently, the shutter button is connected to the control
circuitry by a flexible printed circuit board that goes over the
prism. The board has a tendency to crack at the bends. The cure
is to run ribbon cable in place of the board.
