Granted, I know that's true. I recently worked at one of them for a short bit.
But the fact remains that the film machine is a seperate machine from the printer and could easily be done away with but they don't. So obviously there's enough of a demand to do it. But then again, we might be surprised. When I worked there, there was more film brought in than I thought especially disposable cameras.
