There are patterns, it's a problem, you should be able pic up a lens
and have it work after say a 3 month break. I don't always carry my
long glass, it stays in my safe for the most part but I know that when
I do need it it will work. Having to regularly exercise a lens to
guarantee it works is pretty lame (assuming that's part of the
pattern), the only bit of photo gear that I do accept needs a regular
workout to keep it functioning is my now 40 y/o M4.
