It looks like it's missing its full-pass neutral density filter; many of
the catadioptric lenses seem to assume there will be a filter, so if you
(for some inexplicable reason) don't want to make things dimmer, you
need to stuff a full-pass piece of glass in there.  Don't know if this
applies to the particular lens, but the picture sure looks like what my
Rokinon 800/8 did before I got a full-pass neutral density filter for
it.  It's now quite sharp, if I manage to get the
focus-plane-like-a-microtome where I want it.
