not here, you can be laid off during illness if your prognoses is bad
or if your position technically ceases to exist. that is the route
they chose. the team I was in was made up of three people, one quit,
one is ill and one was hired for a different team in the first place
and will relocate back to there. so they can let me go for
organizational reasons. it is legal.


Yeah, they can do that here as well - can't single you out, but if they're eliminating the whole department or whatever, you can be laid off along with them - but not fired.

And what's called "workman's comp" (compensation for pay lost due to on the job injury) as well as medical benefits continues until you are made whole again.
