Thanks, y'all.

Since posing my question, I've found out I'm heading out of town in the opposite direction for the next couple of days. So, I figure the best thing to do is wait until I come back home and see if it's still available.

Cheeky makes a good point, by the way. I'll probably make the trip for a 1.4, and dawdle over it if it's a 1.7. Apparently, the /2.0 is extremely common and I'm liable to trip over one at any moment. So, I'll let the initial rush pass (I've only recently discovered, and become infatuated with, the power of aperture priority) and check in with the seller in a few days.

From what I understand, all the SMC 50mm primes of the era are wonderfully sharp, so I can't really go wrong with any of them. My main goal at this point is simply to assemble a nice collection of classic primes -- ever since I fell in love with what must be the least desired of the bunch (Asahi Takumar [Taiwan] 135mm f/2.5). So, I'm really tempted by any really sharp, large-aperture 50mm prime right now. I just don't want to pay any more than I have to -- which is what I did with the 135mm.

It's funny how my priorities shifted from zoom reach to maximum aperture almost overnight since I paid too much for my first prime. But, since I started taking photos, nothing has been quite as satisfying as getting the shot I was hoping for out of a manual-focus prime lens. It really has opened up an entire new world for me.

Thanks again, everyone. I truly do appreciate the input.

Best,

Walt

Well, an hour and a half's drive makes it questionable. But his stuff
is clearly worth more than $35 if you were in the same town.
All black bodies are very desireable.
The Tokina is a 35-70mm 1:3.5-4.8
If you could confirm the 50mm is a f1.7 or better I'd make the drive.
I'm betting it is. (Should be a Pentax-M lens) The black body is a
Good Sign of somebody who didn't buy the cheap stuff. The flash and
the Tokina alone are worth the $35.

The MV-1 was an upgraded MV, adding motor drive capability but, unlike
most Pentax film bodes, the black version is much more common that the
chrome (in fact, I've never seen a chrome MV-1 other than in a photo).
I'm fairly sure the standard lens was the 50 f2 and I'd be surprised if
the one in the ad was fitted with anything faster.

  Hi all,

Just wanted to solicit some opinions as to whether or not this would be
worth an hour-and-a-half drive.

I was thinking it might be worth the trip for the glass alone, but don't
know what lens usually came with the camera. Any thoughts and advice would
be appreciated.

Thanks,
