Hi!
I realize this has been discussed a number of times, so I apologize in
advance. Most recent demonstrations of K-5 at very high ISO settings
on pentax forums using Topaz Denoise were very impressive. I thought
that instead of buying a new camera (which is out of the question at
this moment and few more moments to come) I might buy (use a freeware
one) noise reduction software to extend the effectively useful ISO
range of my K-7.
Presently I downloaded Topaz Denoise for the trial and it is very
impressive. I wonder are there any alternatives or even better products?
What would you recommend?
Thanks.
Boris
I really like Imagenomic Noiseware. $49 or $69 (Pro). Comes as a
standalone app, or the plugin flavour works with any Photoshop version,
Lightroom or Aperture.

What I especially like is that while it has a fully automatic mode that
learns from the images you give it and does an excellent job, you can
also tweak a lot of controls to get finer control. For example, I
always reduce the effect of NR on highlights since I see little noise in
well-exposed areas of K20D images. Doing that leaves highlighted areas
sharper.
But I'm hearing that the latest versions of ACR do a simply astounding
job of NR, so you might want to just upgrade PS to CS5 or get Lightroom 3.
