Paul, without intent to sound provocative here, but Nikon D7000 appears to move in the opposite direction - it offers compatibility with non CPU'ed lenses by having mechanical aperture coupling. This kind of introduction would make even less sense economically, but it did happen. You're right - there is no immediate problem. Just yet.
