a great trick i learned while teaching an introductory darkroom class to some kids was to just count the ticking clock if you have one in the darkroom. it's particularly useful for making enlargements if you don't have a clock attached to the enlarger, since the times are generally shorter than for film development. also, i don't see why you'd need anything other than any watch or clock for processing film, you do it in the tank, and you can have the light on, so..
