You generally have to adjust the contrast to get a decent print, as the default 
settings give a pretty flat picture.  You can do it in your photo software using the 
contrast adjustment, but I find I get better results and control using the levels 
adjustment.  Keep at it, it does take practice, but you can practice on cheaper paper 
until you get the idea.
