I'm not defending this particular set of pictures, but given their level of development babies have to be posed like dolls for photographic purposes. After all, the parents want pictures for later in life and never mind the relatives who live far away. This particular set of shots does have a funny feel to it, sort of like a junior Kindle commercial, which also make me a bit uncomfortable. I think it's a question of goals. It does feel like, in these shots, the baby is secondary to the goal of the shot.
