I disagree. I find the first thee shots superb. The shooter obviously had to at least do some burning and dodging to get this effect and quite possibly employed filters, but the resulting look is much like the human eye and brain might record with normal correction of the scene. And the overall result, to me at least, is very pleasing. Manipulation of values is a valid photographic tool. Take Ansel Adams scenics for example.
