Brian: It does have them but I find I am seeing that it is in focus and not paying attention to those lines. I may try to turn off the focus indicator in the view finder and see if it helps in making me focus in on the lines.

Can't you just use the etched lines of the viewfinder AF guides to help or doesn't the K-r have those? I find it's quite easy to line them up if you have a defined horizon or a vertical object in the field of view. If that fails, just rotate and crop the image in post.
