Ah! I grok you now, Jack. I had misinterpreted your typo ("is") to be a grammar error rather than a misspelling of "if".

Yes, she's not likely destined to be Canada's Next Top Model. But you're right, a wise photog would direct her to smile with less mouth. I'm very interested in this kind of thing: the whole "how do you de-emphasize less flattering attributes and play up good features" through pose, angles, lighting, etc. Yet another personal challenge.

In Sandra's case, she has good facial structure, great skin and colour, is very slim, and has cool henna body painting, all of which tend to cause one to forgive the too much gum thing. I expect.

As for the K-5, Houston we have a problem. :) Pentax has announced a $100 price cut and $300 instant rebates on K-5's. I put in a call to my local pusher to see if that is affects Canadian pricing any. Not that I'm prepared to buy a K-5 right now, no sir.

As it happened, I did take a look at this one also. I noticed the hot spots you

Careful Bruce, if you acquire a k-5 you'll have lost one MAJOR excuse. ;-).

Did I mention there was wine involved? :)

and her smile could be more complimentary is somewhat subdued.
More my fault than hers, I fear. These were shot hand-held, wide
aperture, so I lost a number of better expressions to mis-focus and
motion blur. Some of those shots are on the edge of useable softness, so
I may revist them. (Sometimes I can successfully diminish softness by
increasing LR "clarity" a bunch with the brush tool.)

But come to think of it now, I should be able to safely blame the tools
here. I'm stuck with a ratty old obsolete and quite useless K20D. It
can't focus and it's quite useless in low light (ie anything dimmer than
an arc welding torch).

Meanwhile, you may be happier with her expression in this one ...

Similar setup, but no fill flash. I didn't like the hot spots, so we
moved under cover for further shots.

Exposure well done. Bruce!

Same venue as "Here and now" PESO. We were drinking wine and killing time
waiting for the Official Wedding Photog to wrap up in the garden. This guest was dying to
get her picture taken ...
