first of all the output Apple's iBooks Author is based on HTML, and i hope this approach catches on (in a general way, not just in Apple-land) since the PDF-based stuff and bitmapped text pages need to go

and i agree, transcripts of videos would be a great place to start, with cued links so when you find a valuable and/or inscrutible part of the transcript you can jump into the video

i would say that i've gained quite a bit from informal "vidcast" tutorials explaining topics in Drupal, which has many abstract concepts and an intricate administrative UI; but some vidcasts are also a waste of time, and most seem a little bit inefficient
