At the risk of prolonging this thread, I offer the following comments.

The Optio 430, 330, & 230 are Pentax's digital offerings.
I hear they are selling quite well.
Good decision by Pentax to make money!
Not a bad marketing decision either...

Go over to your local electronics retailer.
You will find tons of cameras mixed in with the computers.
The 3 megapixel stuff is going for US$500-700 and up.
The results are good and download to your computer easily.

What was the last 35mm camera to move that well or get that kind of
distribution?
They are selling point-n-shoot cameras for $500 and they are flying off the
shelves!
What would you want to do if you were a manufacturer?
Help those picky 35mm photo hobbyists, or sell to Joe Sixpack?
It's Polaroid all over again...

And you will have to wait for your 35mm versions, if they ever come.
You can make a pretty good case for the idea that they never will.
With a couple of more steps, the consumer grade stuff will be all the 'Pros'
need.
Just how sharp does that photo of Johnny and the Easter Bunny need to be. <g>
...Or that photo of the Mayor and the Citizen of the Year?

Regards, Bob S.
