be glad you are not on a 640kbps copper DSL line like mine, on which the 4.4GB 10.8 installer would be about a 16 hour download

i have also read that you can use the wifi at an Apple Store to download the installer (presumably faster); i will probably do this when i upgrade from 10.7

given that you have slowish internet service, you might want to follow this tip about how to preserve the downloaded installer for reuse:
