Case law backs you up on that Bob.

As for dangerous, I guess it's all in the way you dress. I was cold but not 
that uncomfortable. Army surplus parka, layers, long-johns, proper winter boots 
and mittens (not gloves).

-40C is quite do-able if you do it right.
