I expect anything they saved on reduced packaging costs would be lost to
increased shoplifting. If the merchandise was more easily concealable
the price might even go up.

When my husband and I started recycling, excessive packaging become
VERY apparent, since all the paper and plastic headed to our recycling
bin—at least there is that recourse for consumers.
