I agree with you: to me it's all about the final image and not the means used to achieve it, as if anyone could tell from the result. We're cropping reality every time we take a photo. I've done panoramas in 3 different ways: 6x7 shooting on masked 35mm film, stitched images and cropped single frames. I love the single-click approach of the 6x7 but would rather not scan film. A digital Xpan is something I'd lust after, but I don't think my organs would be worth enough. Having said that I've always found good panoramas to be incredibly difficult to make.
