I agree with you: to me it's all about the final image and not the means used 
to achieve it, as if anyone could tell from the result.  We're cropping reality 
every time we take a photo.

I've done panoramas in 3 different ways: 6x7 shooting on masked 35mm film, 
stitched images and cropped single frames.  I love the single-click approach of 
the 6x7 but would rather not scan film.  A digital Xpan is something I'd lust 
after, but I don't think my organs would be worth enough.

Having said that I've always found good panoramas to be incredibly difficult to 
make.  Once you get some good skyline and mountain photos the creativity can 
dry up :)
