It's not as complicated as scoring Cricket.

Thanks - I would never have guessed.

I'll save the Wikipedia article for when I'm old and in a rest home.

On a baseball scorecard "K" denotes a strikeout.

Everything you wanted to know about scorecards:

As it turns out, in this case it should be a backwards "K" as the batter did not swing
and took a called third strike ("went down looking", in baseballspeak).

Yes much of the game takes place in the infield. One of the difficulties of
playing outfield (I know from experience) is being ready when the ball is hit
your way; one can go many innings without making a play.

Thanks for the comment!

What does 'throw a K' mean?

It's a nice photo. The sport seems a bit crowded, tucked into that
little corner of the field.

Kind of echoes my thoughts when I looked at the photo, Paul. Except
my favourite bit is the batter, body anticipating the pitch. The ump's
body position was pretty cool, too

Great pix! Shows the essence of baseball - the pitcher after the

is gone, the ball in mid-flight, the batter and catcher waiting for
the

ball to arrive and...best of all, the ump poised to make the call.

Free beer.

To be more accurate, "beer that someone else paid for". Whatever, I
liked it.

Didn't bring a long lens, so with the kit zoom I'm okay with this
photo. Here's ace knuckleballer R.A. Dickey throwing a strike:

On a baseball scorecard a strike out is marked "K", and this pitch
was an inning-ending strike, hence the title.

Jays won. Maintained their lead over the hated Yankees. I got free
beer.

It was a good night.
